Do Websites Really Work?

“I have enough business. Why would I need a web site?
This is a phrase I hear time and time again. Websites can attract the right client and alleviate the tire kickers out there by focusing on your quality of sales rather than quantity. The sell low with high volume days are over. But, yet there are those who feel a web site has no use when you’re busy. WRONG!
The other day I spoke with a contractor who said just that, he has enough business. Yet after speaking with him further it was clear that it was not that he had enough business it was that he had enough of the wrong business AKA tire kickers. I then asked him how he closes his deals. He said he shows them his portfolio and his prospects typically like what he does and his price is reasonable. I then asked would it be more efficient if your portfolio was on his web site which will allow his web site to be the sales person for him rather than drive all over wasting gas and precious time. All he would have to do is encourage people to check his portfolio and if they liked what they saw they’d call back. He seemed to like that idea and for obvious reasons. Simply put a website can pre-qualify your buyer. A properly designed website is not only a great way to close deals for you; it’s a great way to save time so you’re spending more time on your business. If done properly the next call your customer makes is to buy from you.
A professional website will allow your prospective referrals and new business to draw a conclusion to whether or not to buy from you. Now here’s the catch, a bad website will determine your level of professionalism and you will loose business regardless of how great your work is. I guarantee it! Think about it for a second. You’re about to sink a ton of money into your home and the contractor does not have a web site or a really bad one, odds are he also has paper thin business cards and a junky beat up truck and lists the quote on the back of that paper thin business card, are you going to do business with him, most unlikely. However, you find another contractor who has an attractive business card gives a detailed quote of the job and has a respectable vehicle and you have already looked at his portfolio on his professionally designed website, provided that the price is reasonable odds are you’re buying for him. Same will go for your business whatever it may be. The World Wide Web attracts a new age of buyers and if you are not on the internet you’re not an option.
Web sites are subjective to the end user (that’s the guy looking for your business). Your opinion should be to attract your client, not whether not a web site has use, we’ll teach you that part.
Food for thought – If websites did not work then I would not be writing this and you would not be reading it, right? But really, if you’d like to know more about website design and website marketing and consulting and it’s use, please drop us a line and we’ll be happy to assist you.
